How to Repurpose Podcast Episodes Into Short-Form Clips for Social Media

You put hours into recording, editing, and publishing each podcast episode. Don't let that content live and die on one platform!

Repurposing your podcast into short-form clips for social media is one of the smartest ways to grow your audience without creating anything from scratch. A single 30-45 minute episode can become a week's worth of content on Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. Here’s how to get started with repurposing your podcast episodes.

Video Clip Repurposing

If you record your podcast on video, you're sitting on a wealth of short-form content. Pull a 60 to 90-second clip of a strong opinion, a surprising stat, or a memorable guest moment, add captions, and you have a ready-made Reel or Short that can reach thousands of new viewers. Tools like Descript, Riverside FM, and CapCut make it easier than ever to trim, caption, and format your clips for each platform.

I am not going to sugarcoat it: repurposing takes a long time, and it may not be worth the ROI to take time away from your business. That’s why I recommend outsourcing! Here’s what you need to know about the process to make the best decision for you and your business.

Audio Clip Repurposing

Video is NOT a requirement for podcasting! You can have a successful show without ever filming yourself. The main thing you are missing out on is repurposing clips from your recordings as reels, but there’s an easy fix. Just pull audio clips instead as mp3 files and post them with b-roll or in your stories with a graphic to advertise this week’s podcast episode.

Starting is a lot more valuable than following current trends.

How do I know what’s the right choice for me?

Video is worthwhile for repurposing if you want to post more often and don’t mind sharing your face on the internet. Record videos if you want to market your podcast with 9:16 on Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Spotify.

If your focus is sharing knowledge or experiences and connecting to your lead magnets, then it’s okay to stick with audio. I recommend that everyone starting a podcast begins with audio only, because it’s easier to start and stay consistent. You can always upgrade but there is no content to repurpose if you never launch!
